A tragic accident on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, claimed the life of one student from Klo Agogo Senior High School, while another remains in critical condition. The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on the Obawale-Klo Agogo road, a suburb within the Yilo Krobo municipality in the Eastern Region.
The accident happened on a poorly maintained section of the Koforidua-Nkurakan-Klo Agogo-Asesewa road, notorious for its dust and dangerous driving conditions. The hazardous road conditions have been blamed for numerous fatal accidents in the area, including this most recent tragedy.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of a Hyundai vehicle, registered GW 1862-18, attempted to overtake another vehicle on the dust-covered road. The thick dust cloud limited visibility, causing the driver to collide with a motorcycle carrying the two students on their way to school.
The injured student was rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital for medical attention, while the deceased was transported to the hospital morgue.
Residents expressed their frustrations to Nenebi Ayertey at Rite FM News/Onua TV, citing the ongoing dangers posed by the poor condition of the road, which they believe contributed to this and other fatal accidents. They called for urgent government intervention to prevent further loss of life.
