The Chairman of the Kabaka Foundation, who also serves as the Nkosuohene for Nkwatia-Khahu, Nana Owiredu Wadie, has commissioned an ultramodern sports complex at Nkwatia.

The edifice, which sits atop the beautiful Freedom Hills Hotel (a hotel owned by Nana Owiredu Wadie and his family), boasts a tennis court and a basketball court, making it the first phase of the project.

According to the Executive Director of the KABAKA Foundation, Dr. Henry Larbi, the second phase will boast an AstroTurf football pitch, squash court, and other ancillary projects that will be completed by the end of the year.

He said the project is in line with the Kabaka Foundation’s community infrastructure development projects. He noted that the idea is to develop talent in Kwahu and its environs.

“This sports complex we’re all seeing is in line with KABAKA foundation’s community infrastructure development projects. The idea is that we want to provide community infrastructure that can develop talent and also create room for ordinary people to have development, so we thought of having people go into sports and sports is also a good avenue where we can have the youth develop themselves and be productive.

The KABAKA foundation is constructing this Nana Owiredu Wadie sports complex which has a tennis court, a squash court, a basketball court and then an AstroTurf football pitch which will be completed by the end of the year”,

Dr Larbi indicated that it’s within the plan of the KABAKA foundation and Nana Owiredu Wadie to have coaches and trainers who are going to identify and train young athletes from Kwahu who might have an interest in other related sports activities.

Dr. Larbi urged government agencies, individuals and philanthropists to take advantage of the tourism industry in Kwahu and invest to broaden the eco-tourism in the area.

He added that the place through consultation with Nana Owiredu Wadie would be used to camp and even host national sporting activities.

President of the Ghana Tennis Federation, Mr. Isaac Aboagye – Duah added that the new tennis court initiated by Nana Owiredu Wadie highlights his pleasure to see Tennis growing in popularity and gaining prominence as one of the most developed sports in the country.

He said the commissioning of the facility and tournament being played shows the dedication and testament of the hard work of everyone involved in promoting tennis at the grassroots level.

“Tennis is a sport that requires perseverance, skills and determination just as squash. It’s the sports that have produced some of the greatest athletes in the world and it inspires countless individuals to take up their sports. Today we celebrate not just the opening of the court but also the potential it holds to inspire and transform lives”, he stated.

Mr. Duah appealed to Nana Owiredu Wadie, who also doubles as the Board Chairman for the St. Peter’s SHS to renovate the two tennis courts at the St. Peter’s SHS.
