Some Businesses Closed in West Akyem Over nonpayment of Taxes by MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive for West Akyem in the Eastern Region, Honourable Seth Oduro Boadu has said himself and the assembly’s staff are ready to move to the doorstep of tax payers who are refusing to voluntery pay tax for the money.

According to him, despite financial challenges in the Country, people are expecting the government to pay workers, contract roads, Schools, Hospitals and other obligations but some are refusing to pay tax, hence the move.

However, the MCE and his staff at the Assembly have began chasing non tax payers at Asamankese and they are expected to move to other areas within the Municipal to enforce that people honor their obligations.

According to the MCE, day one of their door to door tax collection was fruitful because most people were forced to pay tax or face closure of their shops and offices.

Honourable Seth Oduro Boadu said if all people who are supposed to voluntary pay tax honor their obligations, the Assembly might not wait for Common Fund from the Central government for development.

The chief executive said some reluctant tax payers shops were locked during the exercise and warned that anyone who attempt to open it will be sent to Court for Prosecution.
