Illegal Mining Equipment Should be Burnt and Destroyed – Council Chair KTU

The Council Chairman of Koforidua Technical University, Professor Samuel Apori, has called for bipartisan support for the government to be resolute to burn, destroy tools, implements, and machinery and prosecute illegal miners and their collaborators irrespective of their political, religious and socioeconomic status.

Prof. Apori who is also Chief of Akyem Hemang and an environmental activist also urged the regulatory bodies whose duty is to police, safeguard and ensure the protection of water, the environment, and the mineral resources of the state to be fearless and efficient in the discharge of their mandate.

“The president and his government should be assisted on a bipartisan basis to be resolute to burn, destroy tools, implements, machinery and prosecute galamseyers and their collaborators irrespective of their political, religious and socioeconomic status.”

Prof. Apori however admonished Ghanaians to desist from criticizing President Akufo Addo and Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta solely over the current economic hardship without providing alternative policy intervention.

He said Ghana’s economic situation is not worse off as being portrayed by the international media and rating agencies.

“Currently there are economic challenges in the country, please do not be criticizing the president and finance minister for solely being responsible for the challenge without giving opinions on how to improve the economy. In Ghana, we can buy food, water, medicine, and fuel without restrictions. Let us on a bipartisan basis see how the current challenge could be addressed”.

“Comparatively, international media, we are not worse off as it is being portrayed, so have confidence in the government and assist the president in improving our condition and situation”. He said this when opening the 8th congregation of Koforidua Technical University on Saturday, September 25, 2022.
