Health: CHPs Compound in Awukugua Facing Serious Challenges

Mrs. Hectoria Yvonne Arhinful who is the Okere District Public Health Nurse has revealed that the Awukugua Community CHPs Compound built by the community some years ago is too small to admit patients to receive treatment hence the facility needs an expansion.

She said the facility has only two small rooms hence patients receive care in turns.

Due to the inadequate space ,the facility is unable to admit pregnant women for delivery or any emergency case that requires admission therefore all such cases are referred .

Mrs Hectoria Arhinful further lament the unavailability of water in the facility which forces the nurses to go round nearby houses to provide water to be used for health care services and also lack of bed , and science kits to keep vaccines in it potent state without necessarily riding motors to go for vaccines in nearby health centres.

” We have a lot of challenges here, when you look at the nature of the CHPS compound you will realize that there are only two small rooms that the health personnel here are operating in and because of that we are not able to admit many patients here, especially when pregnant women are on labour and are suppose to be admitted here we are not able to do that so we transfer them to the district or regional hospitals so it is making our work very difficult for us.”

“As am speaking with you now we don’t have access to water in this facility unless you go round to the nearby houses before you will fetch water to serve your need and looking at that from the health perspective that is not hygienic since you may even contaminate the water before using it,” she said.

She made this known when William Nana Ansah Agyemang who is the President of Awukugua Abroad Development Association U.S.A made a donation of PPEs and Soft drinks to the facility and National Identification Authority official at Awukugua.

William Nana Ansah Agyemang who is the President of Awukugua Abroad Development Association U.S.A revealed the motivation behind the donation is to improve services by the two entities.

“The CHPS compound is our only and immediate health centre that serves the entire community anytime one is unwell and looking at how dedicated the health personnel are to the work despite the numerous challenges they face regarding infrastructure and personal protective equipment, therefore it is important for us to support them with the PPE’s today so that it will motivate them to continue to work hard to serve the Awukugua community and its adjoining areas” he explained in an interview.

He added by saying that ” the NIA officials have been working hard since the establishment of the NIA centre at Awukugua and the centre has really helped most people to register and receive their NIA cards instantly without them having to travel a long distance to other districts or at times Accra to register for their NIA cards so I believe it is also imperative for me to show appreciation by donating these items to them”.

Nana Ampere Gyekye Adidulf who is the Amankrado of Awukugua also expressed his appreciation for the donation made and congratulated the nurses and the NIA officials for their hard work and dedication shown towards serving the Awukugua Community and humbly requested that the Awukugua chips compound be expanded to enhance health care in the community.
